MHCLNA of NSW & ACT 11th Annual Conference 2011

Sustainability in Mental Health Consultation Liaison Nursing: Promoting Potential for Long Term Maintenance of Biological, Psychological, and Social well-being.

The Mental Health Consultation Liaison Nurses’ Association of NSW and ACT is holding their 11th Annual Conference on Friday 11th NOVEMBER 2011 at the North Sydney Harbourview Hotel.

Recognition of the incidence of mental health problems and the impact of these on the social and physical well being of individuals is highlighted by the World Health Organisation that there can be ‘No Health without Mental Health’ (Prince et al, 2007).

The Mental Health Consultation Liaison Nurse is uniquely placed to enhance mental health literacy, building the capacity of clinicians in general hospital and community settings to recognise and respond to mental health issues. In doing this we help reduce stigma, moderating distressing psychosocial symptoms precipitated by adjustment to physical illness.

The increasing diversity of the role and potential for further expansion affords us the ongoing challenge of how to continue to develop practice in ways that are sustainable within individuals, health systems, as well as the wider community. Using available resources in the most effective way is a hallmark of Mental Health Consultation Liaison Nursing.

We would like you share your ingenuity in developing sustainable roles and resources within a
financially constrained and competitive health environment.
The MHCLNA annual conference provides the opportunity for networking and liaising which facilitates dissemination of our expanding body of knowledge and inspires creativity in the development of new professional roles in our Speciality Area.
